    SIMPLY THE BEST - 25 GOATs - Quarterbacks - NFL History 

  HEAR YE, HEAT YE ! Somehow I was overtaken to speak in YE OLDE ENGLISH. Bill Shakespeare @ shit. As all of youze are well aware, highly cultured on this end. Pinky finger up at all times. Not braggin' reader, no, just sayin'. So all of us can be on the same page @ all that crap. Helpful hints to enjoy your reading experience. Cuz I care reader, I care. Altruistic(weeee !), a giver in layman's terms. What you think ? NOBODY @ I mean no one amongst us humans will care for you as I. Nevertheless, I digress and need to get on with this blog, list, chapter before I lose all of my brain capacity, go completely bonkers, lose my shit, @ then what you got? HUH? You tell me smart ass.  

   Well, you will have a writer who has lost his brain capacity, is completely bonkers, @ lost his shit ! THANK YOU !  

CRITERIA TO BE A GOAT QB - 

  The NFL quarterback, simply the most difficult position in all of team sports. Possibly in all sports, period. A good QB must possess a quick witted mind with an incredibly high level of concentration. Must be able to take a beating and get back up. An accurate throwing arm. Fearless. 

  I.E.(you like the i.e. stuff dontcha, reader? get you goin' right there) Jim McMahon, a champion when healthy, was riddled with injuries. His greatness extremely short-lived. JAY CUTLER(stop while i vomit), had none of these attributes, I.E. HE STUNK ! Duh Chicago Duh Bears, to this day do not know what to do with a qb, they never have. SEE - Rex Grossman, Bobby Douglas, Bob Avalini, the list is endless. 

BACK TO THE LIST ALREADY, WOULD YA ? Awright, awright, get off my fricken' back ! and if you can figure out who i am speaking with, please let me know. CUZ NO ONE IS HERE !!!! YA SEE ? Thank you reader.

1) - A GOAT QB must be good in the biggest games. 

2) - Although a team sport, championships count. 

3) - His career must have longevity. Staying healthy a must (flash in the pans don't add up to much). 

4) - A GOAT QB must be a player @ man of impact. Leaving his mark.

5) - Their play makes them EZ to remember. Instantaneous recollection standing the test of time. 

MY LIST - TOP 25 NFL GOAT QBs 

25 - JIM KELLY  - Took the Buffalo Bills(yes, the Bills), early 90's, to 4 consecutive Superbowls. I know, they got their ass kicked 4 straight, but nevertheless, 4 straight AFC championships is a tremendous accomplishment. Also, one of the great nicknames, the K-GUN ! 

24 - DAN FOUTS - San Diego Super Chargers !!! Fun team to watch, highly entertaining. Lightening quick release, explosive dangerous offense. Ran what came to be known as The Air Coryell offense. A hall of famer who wore a hat that said MFIC(motherfuckerincharge). I want a guy who wears a hat like that on my list !  No rings though. 

23 - JIM PLUNKETT - 2 time Superbowl champion with the Raiders. One of the great comeback stories in NFL history. This guy was done,  getting his teeth kicked in with the Patriots @ the 49ers for a decade. To comeback @ win 2 ! An amazing achievement @ career. Plunkett was tough as nails and SHOULD BE IN THE HALL OF FAME, but is not. A crime this. 

22 - KURT WARNER - A great story coming out of the arena league, where he perfected his lightening quick release. Played in 2 Superbowls with the Rams, winning one(a classic battle over the Titans). Losing one(a classic battle losing to Pats). Taking the Cardinals(yes, the Cards) to another Superbowl(1 minute from winning it all, another classic game v the Steelers). Tough SOB, just made it to the hall of fame. A QB who gets the Cardinals to 1 minute of a championship is on my list. THE GREATEST SHOW ON TURF ! 

21 - NORM VAN BROCKLIN - One of 2 QBs to take 2 different teams to the title. The Flying Dutchman won one with the Rams @ one with the Eagles. Threw for a record 554 yards passing in one game ! Old NFL films show this guy smoking on the sidelines as a coach during a game ! MY KINDA GUY ! 

20 - PEYTON MANNING - Not one of my faves but nevertheless, he does have 2 rings. Winning over Duh Bears(which should have an asteric), and 1 with the Broncos(winning not because of him, but in spite of his play). However his #s are huge. He played at a high level for a long time. NOT A GREAT RECORD IN THE BIGGEST GAMES. Got his ass handed to him often. Pitter-patter feet in the pocket, squimish, gets raddled. That's why he is #20. 

19 - DREW BREES - This dude got the SAINTS(yes, the Saints), a ring, which gets him to the list immediately. Huge #s for a long time. Easy to cheer for this guy.  Coming back from career threatening shoulder injury, left for dead in San Diego, not signed by the Fish, @ winning it all in New Orleans ! SOON TO BE HALL OF FAMER. 

18 - STEVE YOUNG - Despite being a descendant of Brigham Young, yeah he's on the list(Mormons, kidding). Long career, 3 time MVP, 1 ring with the 49ers gets him here @ to Canton. Fairly or not, always in the shadow of Joe Montana, as is every one else. Does have the #s though. 

17 - FRAN TARKENTON - Was unlike anything we had ever seen becoming the first scrambler. Very fun to watch. Played for a long time establishing huge #s. However, he played in 3 Superbowls @ got stomped 3 times.  A definite hall of famer. 

16 - DAN MARINO - The quickest release ever. Huge #s but never won the big one. Hall of fame career. The only QB to beat the '85 Bears. 17 seasons with the Fish, owns every record in the books. Albeit, 0 rings.  

15 - AARON RODGERS - This dude ! Ever see this guy play? At his best, plays as good as anyone in the game. In the playoffs every season, but so far only 1 ring. A monster career but has suffered excruciating playoff losses. With the Packers who kill Duh Bears ad infinitum(pretty good huh?). Replacing Brett Favre, @ they did not miss a beat. AWESOME ! 

14 - JOE NAMATH - JETS JETS JETS !!! I need a tissue. The coolest dude to ever play football. Winning SB #3 put the AFL and the superbowl on the map. As talented as any one, his career was marred by bad knees. When Joe was on TV, we all stopped @ watched. He transcended the game. Bigger than the game. Namath did have a lot of bad games, but when he was on, lookout ! There was nothing like him, even to this day. 

13 - TROY AIKMAN - HOW 'BOUT THEM COWBOYS !!! 3 time SB champion. Probably the most accurate passer ever. Tough as they come. Tho my fave game with Troy was a playoff loss to the 49ers. His comeback, but falling short showed guts @ the heart of a champion. His rookie season Cowboys 1-15. To get 3 rings after this, yeah, he is on this list. No doubt HOF. 

12 - BRETT FAVRE - Pronounced FARV, I know, I'm gonna leave it alone. The gunslinger, rocket arm, as tough as nails. A great QB for the Packers, Vikings, @ Jets. This guy took a beating and kept getting back up. Played extremely high level for a long time. LOCK HOF ! Alas, only 1 ring. 

11 - SID LUCKMAN - The Bears got one. A dynasty in the 40's. Playing for Papa Bear himself. The best Bear QB to this day. Holding all team @ many  league passing records. 1940 Bears 73-0 win over the Redskins !(Did they cover the spread?) Running the T-formation to perfection(sadly, duh Bears still running same offense). A great great player. Only the great Sammy Baugh could beat Luckman at that time. 

10 - BART STARR - Many QBs have better stats. Many were probably better, but albeit, this man has 5 rings leading the 1960s GB Packers Dynasty ! A great leader under the tutelage of the great Vince Lombardi himself. Must have been very difficult playing for Lombardi @ Starr excelled. Winning The Ice Bowl puts him on this list ! Playing the game the way it was meant to be played. Outside, cold, real grass, or dirt. When men were men @ not the candy-asses of today(they hit too hard!). 

9 - BOBBY LAYNE - One of my favorite players ever !! My kind of guy ! Underrated, does not get the recognition he deserves. Layne has 3 rings for the LIONS !!!All in the 50's and Detroit has been a pile of crap since ! Tho his reputation as a party animal does linger. Oh no! He drinks ! I never !  The BOBBY LAYNE CURSE on the Lions is still active. 

8 - Roger Staubach - Captain America !! Never out of a game with Staubach at the helm(get it? helm, Roger, navy guy. a knee slapper!). Fantastic career with the Cowboys playing in 4 Superbowls winning 2. This is why the Cowboys are America's Team(tho i think it is the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders ! they are what football @ the nfl are all about!). This man is the template of what a great QB is. A hero ! A winner ! A champion. 

7 - TERRY BRADSHAW - Leading the Steeler Dynasty of the 70's to 4 championships in 6 years. 4-0 in SB games. A rocket arm. I realize The 70's Steelers had a HOF line-up, but that is what it takes to build a dynasty @ this dude was the QB ! Gotta give it to him. An amazing career. 

 NOW WE ENTER THE GREAT BEYOND.  THE 4th DIMENSION. THE ULTIMATE PLAYERS, MEN, QBs WHICH EVER WALKED THIS PLANET. A CASE CAN BE MADE TO MAKE EACH ONE OF THESE MEN THE GOAT. THIS IS THE MT. RUSHMORE. SUPERHEROES,  LEGENDS ALL ! MYTHIC. It is impossible to conceive playing the position of quarterback better than any one of these football gods. LET US BEGIN . . . TRUMPETS sound . . Men weep . . TICK TICK . . reader stop me please so i can finish this damn thing !!!

6 - SAMMY BAUGH - In my O so humble opinion, Sammy Baugh is the greatest footballer ever. Not the GOAT, but oh so close. Pay attention, you may miss something. For not only was Slingin' Sammy the best QB during his storied career, HE PLAYED BOTH WAYS !! He was also one of the leagues premier defensive back ! As if that weren't enough no no no, not for legends, there is more. Sammy was the leagues best punter establishing a NFL record for a single season yards/ punt average ! I'll start my all-time team with Sammy. THIS MAN DID IT ALL !! 

5) - OTTO GRAHAM - Led the Cleveland Browns to 10 straight championship games in the AAFC @ the NFL !! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME ? A juggernaut, a dynasty, unstoppable. Graham's Browns just stomped the shit out of everybody ! A case can be made that Otto is the GOAT ! A champion unlike any other. 

4) - JOHN ELWAY - Jesus Christ, John Elway. Yes, a case can be made making Elway the GOAT, easily. A spectacular football player, he epitomizes getting knocked down, again @ again, and GETTING BACK UP !!! The Broncos got their asses handed to them in 3 trips to the Superbowl. Elway never quit. He did not retire. Finishing his illustrious career with back to back SUPERBOWL championships !! The comebacks, the DRIVE ! An arm like a bazooka ! Elway had it all. Mythic, a legend, WOW !!! 

3) - JOHNNY UNITAS - Are you telling me Johnny U is not #1? Stop throwing tomatoes ! I know, I know, Johnny was THE MAN ! Took the level of quarterback play to a level never seen. His performance in the 1958 title game is heroic. For this game put the NFL on the map. The marriage of TV @ the NFL was born. Football becoming America's game @ the NFL can thank Johhny U for that. This game, a sudden-death OT victory over the NY football Giants, many consider this the greatest game ever. The legend was born. Prompting Art Rooney, owner of the Steelers, on his death bed stating, "WE SHOULD HAVE NEVER TRADED UNITAS". The GOAT, was anyone better than Johnny U ? 

2) - JOE MONTANA - Johnny U until this guy. I never saw any QB ever play the game of football better than Joe. The bigger the game, the better Montana played. 4-0 in SBs. His stats, damn near perfect. 11 TDs - 0 picks. Flawless. I recall watching some playoff games in awe at how well Montana played. How many QBs would put Steve Young on the bench? CLUTCH ! NOBODY PLAYED THE GAME BETTER, EVER. NOBODY COULD PLAY  BETTER. IMPOSSIBLE ! Joe was the GOAT, until, yeah you got that right, until Tom BRADY. 

1) - TOM BRADY - Without debate, TB12, is now THE UNDISPUTED GOAT !! See previous chapter. 

  There it is reader. It took me @ my team of monkeys years to compile this list. For I am what you would call  a NFL buff, guru, aficionado. Thusly my credentials are impeccable.
